The Green Bay Packers announced on Thursday that they have signed running back Pierre Strong Jr. to the active roster, giving them a fourth option if the team can’t play Chris Brooks on Sunday against the Chicago Bears. Brooks left Week 4 with an ankle injury and hasn’t practiced with the team since. In his pre-practice press conference, head coach Matt LaFleur said Green Bay would give Brooks another day before testing how he feels, but signing Strong sure seems to point in the direction of Brooks missing
Week 5.
Strong was previously on the Packers’ practice squad, which signed running back Damon Bankston earlier this week. Strong hasn’t played in a regular-season game for Green Bay in his two years with the club, but he was activated last year due to injuries. Strong will likely back up MarShawn Lloyd and Kaleb Johnson in the running back unit, as well as potentially replacing Brooks on special teams. For reference, Brooks has played 29 snaps on special teams, just a few snaps less than kicker Trey Smack, while Johnson has played three (on kickoffs) and Lloyd has played none this season.
The Packers’ 53-man roster and practice squad are now full, following their most recent set of transactions, which included signing linebacker Jack Dingle to the practice squad.
