What is the story about?

Deebo Samuel has reportedly signed a 1-year deal to return to the team that drafted him, the San Francisco 49ers. He signed a free agent deal with the Commanders last year to be their #2 behind Terry McLaurin, but ended the season as the most productive WR due to McLaurin missing time. Samuel had 72 receptions for 727 yards and 5 TDs, along with 17 rushes for 75 yards and another score in 16 games. Deebo was an effective kick returner as well, returning 15 kicks for a 30.1 yards/return average. Washington

wasn’t expected to re-sign him, and now that option is off the table with him returning to San Francisco.

The Commanders could still be looking to add another veteran wide receiver to the roster to pair with McLaurin, or go with the mix of youth and veterans already on the team. ESPN’s John Keim noted that Washington continues to monitor the Stefon Diggs situation, but doesn’t seem to be interested in any other free agents. Diggs has been dealing with some legal issues this offseason, but has kept the Washington option open. Five teams have reportedly been checking in on Diggs, with the Commanders being one of them.
