Everton have been drawn at home against Newcastle in the Fourth Round of the Carabao Cup. The new-look Magpies have looked good so far this season and beat Milwall in the second round of the competition 1-0 last week.
Newcastle won this competition two years ago, but the last time they met the Toffees in this competition was in the Third Round in 2002 when David Moyes was on his first stint with the Blues. That game ended 3-3 with the Blues then winning 3-2 on penalties after that. The Toon have only
played once at Hill Dickinson which was last season when they obliterated the Toffees 4-1 after a hot start.
The Toffees’ route to Wembley will continue on either Tuesday October 27th or Wednesday October 28th, sandwiched between trips to Arsenal and Newcastle United.
The Blues have never won this competition in their 141-year history, but have been beaten finalists twice, against Aston Villa in 1977 and to Liverpool in 1984. Their run in the tournament last season lasted only until the Third Round when they were knocked out at home against Southampton 6-5 in a sudden-death penalty shootout after the two sides had tied 1-1 after regular time.
Everton got knocked out last season at the Third Round stage, losing tamely 2-0 away at Wolves with the latter side sitting at the bottom of the Premier League at the time. The Blues played them again at the same stage this year, but this time at Hill Dickinson Stadium with Charly Alcaraz scoring the only goal of the game with about ten minutes to play earlier this evening.
