The full 2026 NFL schedule is set to be released on Thursday. However, the first opponent for the Dallas Cowboys has been revealed as it was announced early on Monday morning that the Cowboys will travel to take on the New York Giants. The two NFC East rivals will battle it out in prime time on Sunday Night Football.
This will be the 13th instance in which the Cowboys and Giants will start
the season against one another. Dallas has dominated their Week 1 matchups as they have won 11 of the previous 12 games. The most recent came in 2023 when the Cowboys shutout the Giants 40-0. New York’s only win versus the Cowboys in Week 1 came in 2016 when they pulled out a narrow 20-19 win at AT&T Stadium in Dak Prescott’s first game in his rookie season.
The Cowboys and Giants have a very long and storied history, but its been completely one-sided since 2017. Dallas has won 16 of the last 18 games versus New York, which has included sweeping the season series seven times in a nine-year span. As far as their all-time series count goes, the Cowboys hold a record of 78-48-2 against the Giants.
All four teams in the NFC East are coming off successful drafts, which could create quite the battle for division supremacy in 2026. So, it’ll be crucial for the Cowboys to continue their dominance over the Giants and start the season 1-0 within the division.
