Mexico has announced the 26 player list for their final two friendlies to be played in 2025. In a list hampered by a number of injuries to regular call ups, Mexico made some surprising new call ups to fix the number of injured players. Mexico will face off against Uruguay on November 15th and close out their year against Paraguay on November 18th.
The call up list by Coach Javier Aguirre was the following:
Goalkeepers: Luis Malagon (America), Raul Rangel (Chivas), Carlos Acevedo (Santos)
Defenders:
Johan Vasquez (Genoa), Cesar Montes (Lokomotiv Moscow), Mateo Chavez (AZ Alkmaar), Jesus Gallardo (Toluca), Israel Reyes (America), Jesus Orozco (Cruz Azul), Kevin Alvarez (America)
Midfielders: Edson Alvarez (Fenerbahce), Orbelin Pineda (AEK Athens), Gilberto Mora (Tijuana), Obed Vargas (Seattle Sounders), Marcel Ruiz (Toluca), Roberto Alvarado (Chivas), Erik Lira (Cruz Azul), Erick Sanchez (America), Fidel Ambriz (Monterrey), Alexis Gutierrez (America)
Forwards: Raul Jimenez (Fulham), Hirving Lozano (San Diego FC), German Berterame (Monterrey), Armando Gonzalez (Chivas), Jorge Ruvalcaba (UNAM Pumas), Diego Lainez (Tigres)
The most notable thing is the number of injured players that will not be taking part of the friendlies. Santiago Gimenez, Julian Quiñones, Alexis Vega and Cesar Huerta are all out because of injuries. Gilberto Mora was also out because of an injury to his hand although he was able to make the list in the end. Because of the injury, a couple of players like Armando Gonzalez, Jorge Ruvalcaba and Fidel Ambriz got surprise call ups (although Gonzalez’s great season probably means he would have gotten a call up regardless). Besides the injury, other notable omission are Jorge Sanchez and Carlos Rodriguez (Cruz Azul) and Ramon Juarez (America). Mexico will face off against Uruguay on November 15th in Estadio TSM Corona in Torreon. Mexico will close out their year against Paraguay on November 18th in a match to be played in Alamodome Stadium in San Antonio.
