Bayern Munich are taking a new approach to their UEFA Youth League campaign, and it will see Dante take on a unique dual role per Bild (via @iMiaSanMia).
The Brazilian will not only manage FC Bayern II in the Regionalliga, but will also be responsible for the club’s UEFA Youth League team. This marks the first time a Bayern coach has held both positions simultaneously.
The decision makes sense when looking at how the Youth League squad will be structured this season. In the past, the team was primarily
made up of the U-19s, with a handful of FC Bayern II players added to the squad. This time, however, the foundation will be the FC Bayern II team, supplemented by the top talents from the U-19s.
That setup naturally creates a need for continuity. Rather than having two separate coaches managing largely overlapping groups of players, Dante will be able to oversee the development of the club’s most promising young players across both competitions.
It could also provide a clearer pathway between the academy and senior football. The best U-19 players will have the opportunity to step up and work within the FC Bayern II structure, while Dante will have a direct understanding of the players who could eventually make the jump to the first team.
This is a significant responsibility for Dante, but it is also a logical one. With FC Bayern II and the UEFA Youth League now so closely connected, having one coach oversee both teams could be a major benefit for player development.
