For the first but likely not the last time this season, Kentucky basketball is coming off of a loss.
The Wildcats fell at Louisville on Tuesday in their annual bragging rights match.
Mark Pope was without
sophomore guard Trent Noah but did get Jaland Lowe back after he missed a couple of games due to a shoulder injury.
The Wildcats shot a better percentage from the field, three point range and the free throw line but still managed to lose due to 14 costly turnovers.
Lowe and Otega Oweh did not play well, accounting for eight of those turnovers and shooting just 28% from the field.
The team’s bright spot in the loss was Denzel Aberdeen who led the team with 26 points on 50% shooting.
Kentucky will return to their home court tonight where they are massive favorites over Eastern Illinois.
The point spread currently sits at 38.5-points and ESPN’s Basketball Power Index is giving the Wildcats a 99% chance to win.
Unfortunately for Kentucky, Lowe re-injured his shoulder at practice yesterday and his status for not just tonight’s game but also next week against Michigan State could very well be in doubt.
Despite Lowe not having his best game against Louisville, this is in fact a pretty big blow for the Wildcats.
His ability to handle the ball and create offense for Kentucky’s shooters will be desperately missed.
Next up to take on ball-handling responsibilities will likely be a mix of Collin Chandler, Jasper Johnson, Aberdeen and Oweh.
Noah, who missed Tuesday’s game against Louisville for cautionary reasons, should be able to go tonight.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 PM ET with coverage on SEC Network Plus and the UK Radio Sports Network.
