A busy stretch of offseason news for Syracuse Orange men’s basketball continues, as it appears a third player from the 2025-26 roster is heading portaling.
Syracuse forward Tyler Betsey is entering the transfer portal, according to Joe Tipton of On3, who was the first to report. Betsey, who transferred to the Orange less than a year ago after one year at Cincinnati, averaged 6.7 points, 2.8 rebounds and 0.4 assists in 18 minutes per game for the team this past season.
If confirmed, Betsey is the third
Syracuse player heading to the transfer portal from the program, along with wing Aaron Womack and center Tiefeng Diawara.
Compared to his statistical numbers from his freshman year at Cincinnati, Betsey produced a career year with the Orange. His biggest improvement came from three, where Betsey improved his efficiency to over 40% (compared to 32%) on four attempts per contest (up from 2.4). Betsey primarily served as the backup three and four alongside either Donnie Freeman or William Kyle III.
Inconsistency, especially on offense, was Betsey’s primary limitation. With the Orange last year, he had nine double-digit scoring games and 13 in which he either had zero points or just one made basket.
Defensively, he had the toolkit with his size and position, but didn’t produce many steals or blocks and had some trouble on that end at times in 2025-26.
We’ll keep you posted as any other transfer portal news arrives.
