The defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks went on the road in Week 3, facing off against the Washington Commanders, losing for the first time since Week 12 of the 2025 season.
While the final score was close, between an ineffective running game and three turnovers that led to 21 points for the commanders, it’s a game the Seahawks will look back on and feel they should have won.
On the offensive side of things, Seattle had a solid day outside of turnovers. The run game certainly was not where
the team or fans would like it to be, but Sam Darnold showed once again that he is capable of leading an offense even when the run game isn’t working.
The offensive snap counts are very interesting for several reasons. Likely the most talked about snap counts on the offensive side of the ball is at right guard, where there was a clean 60/40 split for snaps between Christian Haynes and Beau Stephens.
Perhaps more interesting, though, is what the snap counts say about other position groups. Tight end is unquestionably A.J. Barner and then a huge gap before either of Eric Saubert or Elijah Arroyo, both of whom finished with 18 offensive snaps. At receiver All-Universe Jaxon Smith-Njigba is the unquestioned leader of the group, with Cooper Kupp and Rashid Shaheed seeing similar snap counts to the 2025 season. Tory Horton wouldn’t be expected to see a huge amount of work as he continues working his way back into things, but it bears watching whether he earns more snaps in the coming weeks.
Another position that bears watching is running back, where former undrafted free agent George Holani and former undrafted free agent Emmanuel Wilson both outsnapped 2026 first round pick Jadarian Price. Similar to Horton, Price wouldn’t necessarily be expected to have a huge workload after leaving the Week 2 win over the Arizona Cardinals due to injury, so at least at this point being outsnapped by more veteran players is likely less of a concern than ball security.
On the defensive side of the ball, there weren’t a whole lot of surprises. Nick Emmanwori played 36 defensive snaps in his second game back on the field following surgery in the offseason, while Nehemiah Pritchett played just over half of the defensive snaps in the game. That is noteworthy for Pritchett in that it marks the third time in three games that he has played more than fifty percent of defensive snaps, something he had only done twice in his career prior to this season.
And when it comes to special teams, just as it has been in recent seasons, it’s Brady Russell’s world and everyone else just lives in it. Russell led the Seahawks with 28 special teams snaps, while Mike Morris was second at 24 in his first regular season action of the year. Tyrice Knight, Patrick O’Connell and Chazz Surratt all logged 23 special teams snaps to round out the top five for the team.
And now it’s on to a second consecutive matchup against a winless opponent, as the Los Angeles Chargers bring their 0-3 record to Lumen Sunday afternoon in search of their first win of the season.
