Fulltime Thoughts – Everton huffed and puffed at times against Wolves, but were good value for the win having created more tonight.
90+4’ – Time is now up as Pickford hoofs the ball into touch and the final whistle goes. Everton win!
The Blues are into the fourth round draw for the Carabao Cup!
90+2’ – Trippier’s outswinger is cleared and KDH sets off on a break, and is lassoed down from behind by Doyle who is now booked.
90’ – Don’t think Wolves care. They haven’t touched the ball for the last five
or more minutes. Sloppy pass from Pickford though allows Bellegarde to cut in and Garner has to foul him. Ugh, freekick now in the final third. Trippier into the box, flicked out by O’Brien for a corner. There will be a minimum of three minutes added on here.
85’ – The Toffees have possession and are happy to play keep-away with Wolves not pressing deep.
83’ – Everton sitting back and inviting pressure now, and Doyle’s shot is beaten away by Pickford!
79’ – Dibling fights through a couple of tackles before shooting well wide.
This time he cuts in and finds Alcaraz whose first touch is spectacular, leaving his defender for dead, and he curls it in at the far post past Virginia, 1-0 Everton!!
77’ – Virginia undersold on a back pass and screws a clearance out for a throw in. More subs now as Charly Alcaraz and Tyrique George are on for Hackney and Grealish.
George immediately in the thick of it charging down the left, but his cross is tame and straight to Virginia.
73’ – Now Virginia flaps at a cross, but his defenders clear. Everton are camping in their half now.
AMN’s cross is overhit, goalkick.
Wolves have used all five of their subs now, not sure what Moyes is waiting for.
72’ – Johnson was in space on the right, but Everton take a touch too many and Grealish’s shot is blocked, and Virginia collects.
Myko breaks, but his low cross straight to Virginia.
70’ – A reminder that there is no replay or extra time tonight. If it’s still level at the final whistle, we’re going to penalties.
67’ – It’s only going to take something special from Everton to beat their former keeper Joao Virginia. He’s in inspired form, much like the 2021 FA Cup quarterfinal when he kept Man City out until the 84th minute at Goodison Park.
65’ – Dibling both ends! First his diagonal behind the defence to Johnson is perfect and once again Virginia comes sliding out to foil Everton! Then Wolves counter from that and Dibling hunts down Chirewa on a dead sprint before he can shoot.
60’ – Garner’s corner is partly cleared, falls to KDH whose shot is deflected out through a maze of legs. A blue-socked touch would have done the trick. Another shot flies in and Wolves are holding on here.
58’ – Grealish upended again, and he’s getting frustrated with some of the heavy challenges that have come his way.
Barry is going off, and Brennan Johnson will go up top for the Blues. Almost immediate chance as Garner and Grealish combine, and the former slides a low ball into the box looking for Johnson at the far post but Virginia intercedes.
56’ – Quick break for the Blues, Grealish plays Barry into space, 1-on-1 with Wolves captain Toti, and he can’t overpower the defender.
Now Hackney into the box, shot blocked.
55’ – Neave manhandles Myko and sets off on a counter, plays in Armstrong and his slotted shot to the far post is kicked away very well by Pickford! Barry heads the corner clear.
54’ – Chirewa drags Dibling back by the collar, and then Tchatchoua barges into Grealish. Ref might need to show a card again soon.
52’ – Wolves attack down the left and make ground too easily, Chirewa’s cross fizzes through the box and out for a throw-in on the other side.
49’ – Barry’s touch lets him down again. He had the ball with his back to goal a couple of minutes ago, and failed to find a teammate. Now after a lovely interchange of passes on the left, KDH found him in space and the ball just rolled away from under his foot.
46’ – The visitors get the second half underway.
Chance immediately for the Blues as Dibling’s cross into the box is cut out by Traore just before it falls to KDH in the box.
Halftime Thoughts – Everton have done well in spots with the ball and should be ahead at the break but for a stunning save by former Blue Joao Virginia. Wolves do pose a threat though and it won’t be all easy for the Toffees.
45+3’ – Dibling dribbling, Hackney’s cross blocked, and ball falls to JOB who tries an ill-advised shot that sails well over.
Halftime whistle goes, and it’s still 0-0.
45+2’ – Grealish plays it back to Garner, his lofted cross to the back post is spot on and Barry climbs up unmarked and hammers his header down.. and Virginia does incredibly well to adjust and palm it over!
Corner is cleared away, ball comes back to Grealish and he goes down in the box, that’s no penalty.
45’ – Three minutes or more to be added on here.
Garner has had a couple of sloppy clearances through the middle.
43’ – Garner sliding challenge gets the ball to KDH, Grealish lets fly from outside the box and Virginia beats it away, too close to the goalie.
42’ – Everton have done a lot of sideways passing between the back four, but aren’t getting much going forward.
Grealish plays in KDH, and he comes so close to finding an underlapping Myko. Ball bobbling in the box and Hackney hacks at it before it’s cleared.
38’ – Raul Jimenez has gone down a couple of times, and now goes off for Adam Armstrong, who is less of a target #9 and more mobile.
Wolves go down the Everton right, cross into the box comes out to the right back Tchatchoua, but his shot is more ambition and less perspiration and it flies way over.
35’ – Fantastic run from Dibling and he runs along the goalline, cutback is deflected by Toti into Virginia’s arms!
Now Hackney plays Barry in behind the backline but Virginia is out like a shot and scrambles the ball away with the striker inches away.
33’ – Some sustained Wolves pressure as Everton cannot get the ball away with crosses peppering the Blues box.
27’ – AMN with a driving run forces Krejci to give up a corner. KDH into the box, cleared. Myko’s shot, blocked.
Traore goes to ground and is beaten by Grealish, cleared for another corner. Garner from the left, corner is low and short and JOB’s flicked header is into the side netting!
24’ – Beautiful flowing move from Pickford on as the Blues move the ball forward with one-touch short passes, and suddenly Hackney is open on the left, but Traore defends him well.
Now Neave tries to barge through Jake O’Brien but he’s never winning that battle and goes to ground hoping for a penalty, but no one is interested.
21’ – Delicious inswinging cross from the left by Grealish, goes over Thierno Barry’s head and Virginia comes flying over to parry it away, but looks like the striker was offside anyway.
Another chance as Grealish attacks, ball comes to Vitaliy Mykolenko and his cross into the box is good, but cleared away again.
15’ – Lovely move between Hackney, Dibling and Ainsley Maitland-Niles, cross is cleared. Again Dibling gets free on the right, cross is cleared again.
Lot more possession for the Blues in the last few minutes.
13’ – Corner on the Everton left, Garner to take. Deep and Virginia does well to take it at the back post.
12’ – Now Tyler Dibling goes on a run and is fouled. Taken quick, out to Grealish who plays in KDH. His cross is not cleared well, falls to Hackney whose shot is charged down and cleared.
10’ – Everton barely stop a quick counter down the middle, and as they set back up the field Grealish goes slaloming through Wolves and is fouled by Tchatchoua, and he is booked.
Freekick is taken short and wasted. Wolves get the ball and set off down the field, and now Grealish is booked for foul to stop the counter.
8’ – Jack Grealish finally gets a touch but is muscled off the ball by Toti, and the forward fouls his man. Everton have done precious little with the ball in the opposing half.
6’ – Michael Keane gives away a freekick about 30 yards out, Jimenez curls it over the wall and over the bar, Jordan Pickford was there.
4’ – Chirewa goes dancing through the Everton right and into the box, but his cutback is blocked and cleared.
2’ – Looks like James Garner is in the pivot with Hayden Hackney on the right and KDH on the left.

Match Preview
Everton are back in action tonight in the Third Round of the Carabao Cup as they welcome Wolves to Hill Dickinson Stadium. The Toffees have famously not prioritized the Cups in the earlier rounds at least, but with Wolves’ relative strength, David Moyes will not necessarily be able to rest too many players that featured in the stalemate at Tottenham on Saturday evening.
There’s not much to update on the injury front with Christian Norgaard still out for another month at least.
Wolves had a lunchtime kickoff on Sunday, and are preparing for a big Black Country derby against West Bromwich Albion over the weekend, so manager Cesar Peixoto might have to rotate his side appropriately.
