Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl believes in the talent of Daniel Peretz, but knows that the goalkeeper is in for a fight to get playing time at Hamburger SV.
“Of course, we sent Daniel there so he could play. But that’s HSV’s decision. I was aware that HSV have a goalkeeper in Daniel Heuer Fernandes who was promoted with the club and could therefore have an advantage,” Eberl told Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “There may have been promises made beforehand that weren’t kept. I can’t
and don’t want to judge to what extent the promise to Daniel was that he would become the number 1 at HSV. They told me very clearly that they could very well imagine that happening at HSV. That’s why we agreed to it. But the situation is like this now, that’s competitive sports.
“He has to fight it now. I have to be fair and say that Daniel Heuer Fernandes did very well in the first two Bundesliga games. But Daniel Peretz is an outstanding goalkeeper, and I know his character: He will fight for it. This is a development that Daniel must take – to establish himself and seize his chance when he gets it. Our intention is, of course, for him to play as many games as possible.”
Peretz is facing an uphill battle, but it is a long season. If he gets a chance, he will absolutely need to take advantage of it and do his best to avoid fumbling the opportunity.
