The same teams, but different spots this week. Boise State trades with UNLV for the top MW spot following the Broncos’ win over the Rebels. UNLV, along with Hawaii, have clinched bowl spots, and along with the Broncos take the top 3 spots in my mind. I also moved Utah State up while moving New Mexico down. The Lobos struggled with the Wolf Pack, and while the Aggies didn’t have a dominant win, they looked a bit better this week.

Boise State made a statement and now holds the top spot for Mountain West teams in the bowl projections. San Diego State has a chance to make things interesting with a win over Fresno State this weekend. It is looking like seven bowl teams are likely, and there might even be an outside chance at eight.

The race is becoming a bit clearer. Boise is separating themselves out as the team to beat, followed by the Aztecs. Hawaii had a big win to clinch a bowl game. Utah State is on the fringe. CSU, with a new coach, might drop further. San Jose can’t hold a lead; otherwise, they are 6-1. UNLV is just a bit short of talent compared to Boise.

Boise is the favorite going forward, though San Diego could give them a challenge. We’ll know more about them after they play Fresno this weekend. It looks like the conference will get 7 bowl teams; 2 already hit the 6 win requirement, 3 need one more win each, and another two are at four wins with five games left. Outside of the schools I listed, Wyoming is the only one that may have a shot, outside of a mid-season turnaround. They’re favored in two of their remaining games, but would need an upset against Fresno, Hawaii, or San Diego to be bowl eligible. All three are on the road, so it looks unlikely.
