According to reports from On3, Tennessee is set to lose forward Cade Phillips to the transfer portal.
The 6-9 Phillips was shut down for much of this season after undergoing shoulder surgery back in December. It was his third year in the program. Phillips averaged 3.8 points and four rebounds this season as a junior. As the season went on, Phillips and the program opted
to shut him down. The shoulder injury had been lingering on for nearly a full year.
The former 3-star prospect will now look for a new program as a rising senior.
Tennessee already had needs in the post, and this only amplifies them. The Volunteers are left with Jaylen Carey, DeWayne Brown and J.P. Estrella, assuming no more movement out. Phillips was set to finish his Tennessee career as a depth piece, now perhaps he’ll find more minutes elsewhere.
The transfer portal officially opens on Tuesday, following the National Championship game on Monday night.
