Jamal Musiala’s comeback took another important step forward on Wednesday night, as the Bayern Munich star found the back of the net during the 5-0 Champions League victory over Bodø/Glimt.
After dealing with neurological absences, Musiala has been carefully managed by Bayern Munich as he works his way back toward full fitness and his best form. His return has never been about rushing him onto the pitch. Instead, the club has taken a patient approach, gradually increasing his minutes and allowing
him to rebuild his rhythm.
That made his goal against Bodø/Glimt particularly encouraging. Musiala got a surprise start and immediately looked like a player eager to make up for lost time. His goal provided a reminder of the attacking instincts and confidence that have made him one of the most important young players in world football.
Afterward, Musiala understood the magnitude of the moment and issued one powerful word to sum up his feelings —“grateful”:
Harry Kane said afterward that Musiala had looked “very sharp in training” and that it was good to see a smile on his face again. That sentiment captures why this comeback feels bigger than simply another player returning from an absence.
There is still work to do before Musiala is completely back to his best, but the signs are becoming increasingly positive. After a challenging period, scoring in a 5-0 Champions League win is another meaningful milestone in his comeback.
