Newcastle United are exploring midfield reinforcements ahead of the summer, with concerns growing over depth behind starter Bruno Guimaraes, given Sandro Tonali’s likely departure this summer.
Bruno’s recent injury absence alone exposed a clear drop-off in performance from the Magpies, with Newcastle struggling for consistency without him in the starting XI and failing to win games on a steady basis, even with the rest of the midfield available and racking up minutes.
It looks like the situation has
become concerning enough internally to push NUFC to assess depth options in the transfer market. According to TEAMtalk, Newcastle have now entered the race to sign Curtis Jones from Liverpool, considering him a perfect partner-in-crime for Bruno.
“Newcastle United have entered the race for Curtis Jones, TEAMtalk can exclusively reveal, but a move to Italy with Inter Milan is emerging as a particularly attractive option for the Liverpool midfielder,” the report says.
Per TEAMtalk, the Magpies are monitoring Jones’ situation closely. They could face competition from both Aston Villa domestically and Inter Milan internationally, with all three clubs prepared to move if Jones becomes available this summer.
Liverpool already blocked his departure in January, but that not-for-sale stance could soften ahead of the next window if the proper offer arrives at the Reds’ table.
Jones, previously valued at around £30 million, could slide into Newcastle’s XI smoothly from the get-go, filling a gap in Newcastle’s squad rather than replacing Bruno outright.
Jones is also considered a versatile player, as he’s been used in different roles by Liverpool’s Arne Slot, which is something we know Eddie Howe would love.
