Good morning, Fear the Wall.
It was a solid win for BVB against Augsburg this weekend. I caught some glimpses of the match, specifically a window between Adeyemi’s goal and the 4oth minute, where BVB probably should have scored about 5 goals. Maxi Beier went close on several occasions, as did Bellingham and I think Sabitzer. From what I saw, it was a pretty run-of-the-mill victory for BVB.
Bayern, on the other hand, had anything but a routine victory. Two red cards saw the hosts play out a 1-1 draw
to Leverkusen. Before you get excited about Bayern dropping points, just don’t, eh? Nicolas Jackson’s tackle on Martin Terrier is in the running for worst tackles of all time, and he probably should have seen dark red or something more severe than a red card. I’m sure he will be serving a lengthy suspension.
BVB News
- Bayer Leverkusen could be interested in a sensational move to bring free agent Julian Brandt back to the BayArena this summer.
- German Women’s GOAT and former national team captain Alexandra Popp will join BVB Frauen next season. Popp has spent 14 years with Wolfsburg, and will likely be an enormous difference maker for BVB as they continue to climb the ranks of German football.
- Niko Kovac had all the praise for Luca Reggiani, who scored his maiden goal for BVB against Augsburg. Awesome moment for the BVB youngster. Spare a thought for Filippo Mane, who will hopefully get the same chance when fit.
League News
- Stuttgart emerged the victors in a tight match between the Swabians and RB Leipzig. Both teams entered the match on 47 points, with an identical record and a scoring delta of two goals. Deniz Undav gave his side the lead, as is often the case.
- Bayern Munich are in a goalkeeping crisis. With Neuer and Urbig out, Sven Ulreich made an important return this weekend. The Bayern keeper lost his son last year, so it is great to see him back on the pitch, and extremely bitter that he was sidelined with an injury. How the Bavarians will respond is yet to be seen.
- Bayern are extremely dissatisfied by the refereeing in their match (“oh how the turn tables” ~ Michael Scott). Sounds like Luis Diaz’s second yellow for simulation may have been a bad call.
Anything to add? I dunno I can’t seem to think of a question right now. Call it the Sunday scaries.
