It would have been shocking to see the Dallas Cowboys lose to the Arizona Cardinals in the way they did on Sunday afternoon, if it wasn’t so predictable. They had the game in hand only to let it slip from their grasp at the end of regulation, which was only prolonged into overtime after the Cardinals missed extra point attempt. It’s yet another example this team is just bad this year.
Once again, there are more negatives than positives after the Cowboys Week 8 loss to the Cardinals.
THE GOOD – DT Quinnen Williams
It’s difficult
to think of many positive things that occurred in the embarrassing overtime loss to the Cardinals Sunday afternoon, but Quinnen Williams’ play stood out. He’s been playing really well as of late and had multiple sacks in the game (2) in this Week 8 matchup against Arizona.
He’s really been a bright spot on defense for the Cowboys this year, and the most consistent force recently. He’s been well worth the price Dallas paid to acquire him. He’s a centerpiece they can continue to build around and still probably better than anyone the Jets will draft in 2027 with the first of Dallas’ two first-round picks.
THE BAD – HC Brian Schottenheimer
Brian Schottenheimer’s playcalling duties have been a matter of discussion for the majority of the season and will likely remain to be so until they’re either taken away or he relinquishes them. With the playmakers he has at his disposal, the Cowboys offense should be one of the best in the league.
Instead, they are struggling to have consistent outings. And, if that wasn’t enough, Schottenheimer’s in-game decision-making is costing the team wins. He played it way to safe at the end of the game, which allowed Arizona time to drive the field and scored TD that should’ve ended the game if not for the missed extra point.
THE UGLY – Christian Parker’s defense
It was a tale of two halves Sunday afternoon for Christian Parker and the Cowboys defense in the Week 8 matchup with the Cardinals. In the first half they looked pretty good by only allowing three points, but things changed dramatically for the worse in the second half.
They allowed RB Tyler Allgeier to rush for 147 yards and score two touchdowns, also allowing QB Garner Minshew to throw for 188 yards and three TDs in the third and fourth quarter. Whatever was working well for them before halftime completely changed in the second half. They allowed a big play after big play in both the running and passing game and ended up costing them the “W”.
