Omos is living up to his reputation as a giant in AAA. Not only did Omos beat the legendary Rey Mysterio on Night 1, the giant also broke records in the Copa Bardahl in Night 2.
Omos was the story of La Copa Bardahl, but there were also a few surprise returns. First was El Mesias (aka Mil Muertes from Lucha Underground). The AAA legend is a four-time mega champion. Personally, I think Mesias could be built up well enough as a challenger to El Grande Americano on a B-level special event. The other
surprise was the final man to enter, Niño Hamburguesa. The crowd favorite was fired earlier this year over an altercation with a fan at an indie show.
La Copa Bardahl is similar to the Royal Rumble. 15 men entered. Omos was the last man standing, and he did so in dominating fashion. Omos entered 13th and promptly demonstrated his power. One mini wasn’t scared to back down. Mascarita Sagrada unleashed a can of whoop ass on Omos. At least, that was the idea. Omos treated Mascarita like a fly buzzing around.
Omos even did La Parka’s strut after eliminating the skeleton-man.
Omos ran through the field for six quick eliminations. The man that had the most success against the giant wasn’t even a man. It is Burger Boy. Niño Hamburguesa arrived to the ring hurling his weight around. The finish was high drama. After Omos goozled Mr. Iguana over the ropes, Mascarita jumped on the giant’s back. Mascarita fell down to the floor. Omos tumbled over the ropes and hung on for dear life to avoid elimination. Hamburguesa revved his moto to crash into Omos on the apron. The giant absorbed the impact, regained his wits, goozled Hamburguesa, and dumped the super heavyweight over the ropes with ease.
Omos is the first wrestler to win the Copa Bardahl in back-to-back years. I’m fairly certain that Omos broke the record for most eliminations with 9 in this match, but I can’t find specific details for every Copa Bardahl to confirm. Funny enough, Omos is now tied with Niño Hamburguesa for most wins (two) in this match. We need round three next year.
