The Penguins have given their players the day off today following the delay in travel after the team plane had to turn around shortly after leaving Salt Lake City to attend to a medical issue involving Ben Kindel.
Upon the altered plan, per the Athletic,
the team remained in Utah for hours after the incident, but the group was scheduled to depart for Pittsburgh at approximately 5:30 p.m. ET. Players such as Erik Karlsson posted pictures of returning to their families on social media after 10pm last night.
Penguins President of Hockey Operations and general manager is scheduled to talk to the media tomorrow morning prior to the team’s gameday skate. The Penguins will host the Florida Panthers at home on Thursday night.
The Penguins released a statement yesterday afternoon, saying that Kindel was taken to a Utah hospital for further evaluation and was “conscious, alert and in stable condition”.
The team called for privacy and respect in the situation and that’s only fair to do so. Today doesn’t feel like a good day to talk about the current losing streak or think about line combinations or which players should be scratched or benched in the wake of the recent events.
