What a season it has been for young Jussef Nasrawe.
After a stellar 2024/25 season with the U-19s, the 19-year-old found himself catapulted into the starting lineup of the U-23s for the 2025/26 season. At first the left footed midfielder was forced out to the left back position, but due to the personnel situation and his own strong performances he eventually won a permanent starting position before the end of 2025. It was deemed he had nothing more to gain at the U-23s upon the start of the January
transfer window and he left on loan with an option to buy to Austrian Bundesliga side SV Ried for the rest of the 2025/26.
There, he again found himself on the outskirts of the squad and again slowly gained in prominence, starting 4 of the last 5 games of the season as SV Ried narrowly finished on top of the Austrian Bundesliga Relegation Round. This qualified Ried for the Europan Conference League playoffs, which saw Nasrawe complete 90 minutes in every qualifying match, even if Ried did fall to Rapid Wien in the end.
But before the playoffs had even finished, Ried knew they had a special player in Nasrawe and sought to use their buy option. The decision to do so has been confirmed by SV Ried’s official twitter account, with one strange contractual twist:
We have exercised the purchase option for our number #19 [Jussef Nasrawe] and thus Jussef will receive a contract with SV Oberbank Ried until the end of the 2026/27 season.
So he only gets a contract for one year? Surely there is more to this that will come out later. One would assume Bayern inserted a buy back clause as they do with all their talents. Austrian reporter Thomas Streif, with close ties to Ried, not only called the transfer early but has revealed the cost of the purchase on their twitter account:
SV Ried has exercised the purchase option for Jussef Nasrawe. This is likely set at just 100,000 euros. Should the 19-year-old be nominated for Iraq’s World Cup squad, there’ll be a lot of money for SVR.
That’s the thing for Nasrawe. Even after the Europa League playoffs, his season may not yet be done. His name is in the 34-man preliminary squad for Iraq heading to the 2026 World Cup, after all. He may still be cut before the official June 1 deadline for the final 26-man squad is released, but there is a small chance that his meteoric rise this season may yet end in World Cup participation. Not bad at all.
