In a disheartening performance versus the Chicago Bears, the New Orleans Saints fell to 1-6 on the season. The 26-14 final indicates a much closer result as opposed to the on-field activity shown in film.
Next up, the Saints will return home to host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in what will be New Orleans’ first divisional game of the year.
Turnovers Galore:
Chicago went into Sunday’s contest tied for the league lead in turnover differential. After they won the stat battle 4-1 versus the Saints, they now have a firm grasp of that top ranking. Spencer Rattler had thrown just one interception prior to the game against the Bears, but threw three picks and fumbled the ball. You cannot win football games if you cannot take care of the rock.
Pass Defense (or Lack Thereof):
One bright spot from Sunday’s game against the Bears was the performance of WR Chris Olave. The wideout led the Saints with five receptions for 98 yards and earned his first career multi-touchdown game in the NFL. Olave, a candidate of many trade talks recently, has some fans rethinking the value he provides.
D.A.’s Revenge Game:
Former Saints’ Head Coach Dennis Allen, now the defensive coordinator of the Chicago Bears, got the last laugh after his defense dismantled a New Orleans team that he had been a member of for so long. Although the contest was not “Allen v. New Orleans,” there was certainly some added spice during the game.
