The Royals announced they have activated second baseman Jonathan India from the Injured List and have placed pitcher Michael Wacha on the seven-day Injured List for a concussion. Bobby Witt Jr. also returns to the lineup after missing the last three games with back spasms.
India has been out since August 29 with a left wrist sprain. At the time of his injury, he was having a poor month offensively, hitting just .195 in August. Overall, he is hitting .232/.324/.342 with eight home runs in 124 games
with career lows in virtually every offensive category.
Bobby Witt Jr. returns to the lineup after an MRI showed nothing more than back spasms. His back had tightened up during Friday’s game, causing him to exit early. The Royals scored 11 runs in a win on Saturday without him, but have scored a total of three runs in the last two nights, both losses.
Wacha will be out a week after suffering a concussion due to a “minor off-field accident” according to MLB.com reporter Anne Rogers. All five Royals starters that began the season in the rotation have been on the Injured List at some point this season.
He was scheduled to start Wednesday’s game in Cleveland, but now the Royals may have to have a bullpen game. The team does have a 40-man roster spot open and the organization recently signed veteran left-hander Spencer Turnbull, who last pitched on Thursday. Cole Ragans is currently scheduled for another rehab start for Omaha on Friday and would not be available.
