Darren Till faced down his boogeyman on Saturday in the BKFC 94 main event and walked away victorious with a unanimous decision victory over Yoel Romero.
Across five rounds, Till and Romero were both cautious not to get overextended so there weren’t many big punches landed. But the judges felt like Till did enough to get the nod despite getting cut and dropped by Romero during the fight.
Ultimately, all three judges had it 49-46 for Till, who moves to 2-0 in his BKFC career with plenty of exciting
challenges still awaiting him in the future.
Following his win, Till was asked about settling some unfinished business with Tommy Fury or perhaps finally facing Mike Perry in BKFC.
“We can get it on in this ring here,” Till said addressing Fury. “I’ve called [Mike Perry out]. I’m not scared of anyone.”
A moment later, BKFC champion Lorenzo Hunt was in the ring calling for a fight with Till and going as far as saying “you fought like a bitch” against Romero. BKFC officials were quick to swoop in and make sure an extra fight didn’t break out as Hunt and Till continued shouting at each other until they were finally separated.
As for the fight itself on Saturday, Till and Romero were both overly cautious in the exchanges, although as time passed the offense finally picked up a little bit. Romero had the most impactful shot of the night after he blasted Till with a punch that send him down to one knee just as the round was ending.
When Till stood up again, he had a sizable cut underneath his eye that was bleeding profusely. That didn’t slow Till down, however, and he came out more aggressive in the fourth and fifth rounds looking for some payback.
While he never dropped Romero during the fight, Till’s short range game along with his work from inside the clinch apparently did enough in the judges’ minds to give him the rounds to earn the victory with Till getting the nod and moving to 2-0 in BKFC.
Till remains one of the biggest names on the entire BKFC roster but a showdown against Mike Perry is still the most attractive option for the promotion. Unfortunately, Perry just recently suffered an injury in his return to MMA so it’s impossible to now when or if that fight might actually happen.
