Illinois heads to Ohio State with momentum
The Illini got exactly what they needed Saturday.
Illinois blasted Southern Illinois 48-10 in its final non-conference game, improving to 2-1. Katin Houser threw for 305 yards and two touchdowns, Aidan Laughery ripped off a 77-yard touchdown run and Matthew Bailey added an 88-yard pick-six.
Most importantly, the defense looked significantly better after tackling issues plagued the team in the loss to Duke.
Now comes the real test.
Illinois travels to No. 6 Ohio State Saturday
for its Big Ten opener. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. CT on FOX as part of Big Noon Kickoff.
🏐 Volleyball
Illinois finishes non-conference play with a sweep
The Illini closed non-conference play Sunday with a 3-0 victory at Arkansas State. Illinois has now won four straight and finished non-conference play 7-3.
Big Ten play begins Thursday when Minnesota visits Huff Hall at 7 p.m.
⚽ Soccer
Illinois played Iowa to a scoreless draw Friday, keeping the Hawkeyes off the scoreboard. The Illini return to action Friday at home against Rutgers.

No. 12 Illinois men’s golf finished second at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational, while the women’s team finished seventh at the Badger Invitational last week.
