Last week, following our Miami Dolphins’ signing of Malik Willis to be the new starter for 2026, I asked the following question:
Should the Dolphins still consider drafting a quarterback this year to compete, or should the team just ride out 2026 with Malik Willis as the starter and Quinn Ewers as the backup?
If they should or should not draft another quarterback in this year’s draft, why or why not?Below are some of your thoughts and answers-

be our guy going forward. I hope they are correct because what a huge initial success that would be for this new regime.
Absolutely not. You guys would be crazy to. You just got your franchise quarterback. He will be a potential MVP candidate. The dude is that good. You guys should go out there and get a top WR. A good TE and some help on the line.
FinsUp88 says it’s going to happen because the new regime is of the mindset that taking a QB every year is a sound way to run a franchise. Doesn’t seem like the worst idea, especially if using late-round picks, given how it’s easily the most important position on the field.
This regime has already stated that it wants to address the QB position in the draft YEARLY! I don’t see the addition of Malik changing that; the QB draft class normally takes a tumble and day 2 guys often fall to day 3, so why not take a flyer on potential?!
Sully has seen the benefits of sitting a QB behind a viable starter and keeping your franchise avoiding franchise QB gaps, and I expect him to deploy that strategy with us (and so on board with that!).
I wouldn’t even be surprised to see them pull the trigger on a QB in the early rounds, say Simpson is sitting there round two, not sure this regime doesn’t strongly consider that, knowing that the consistent competition in our QB room is the best way to keep our franchise moving forward (unlike the last 20+ yrs).

Phins1972 says to absolutely pull the trigger on a guy in the 3rd or later if you have a guy there that you like.
If there is someone in the third round or later that they like, absolutely they should draft him. Regardless of the degree of blind faith out there for Willis, he’s an unknown commodity. He may work out or he may fail miserably. This franchise has consistently neglected drafting QBs on a regular basis to their detriment. Moreover, I’d absolutely draft one in the first round in 2027. There are some potential franchise guys that should be available in that draft. Willis is far from a sure thing.
Phoenix6 is not in favor of spending the pick or more money on a quarterback.

No… I’d rather they use the 3 thru 7 draft picks on someone they need.

Yes… I don’t see the need to spend more money at the position.

They should not. They have more pressing needs at other positions now… because I feel Malik Willis is set for at least two years.

I think the three they have now is fine at the moment. I think they have a lot more holes to fill elsewhere. Go after somebody in 2027.

Should they? 100%, absolutely. Just not before the middle of the draft. Should be a few guys still there after the 4th that would be good competition for Ewers for QB2 and who could potentially develop over a couple years in case Willis doesn’t produce. As a fan, I hope Willis proves me wrong and is everything the FO thinks he can be…I’m just not sold. I think they’ll end up still needing to draft a QB high in ’27.

If you feel there is a QB worth taking a chance on, why would you not do it ? As in tom Brady you never know what round you might find one ! Coaching and Sullivan decision to be made during the draft. Cam and ewers could end up both being replaced !

I’d draft 2 of them. Behind this OL, you’re going to need as many as you can get and drafting them is way cheaper than signing them as FA’s. Stock up.

Keep searching for the QB to get you to the SB but surround him with a T-E-A-M of good to great players!
ShulaSunglasses wants them to maybe take a look at the kid from North Dakota State late in the draft.
I see no problem drafting one at rd. 5, 6, or 7. Hopefully, a bigger, taller, but obviously raw talent like the kid from NDSU. The Willis signing does not signal we have a franchise QB, but rather recognizes that we did not have the franchise QB in house at the time. The GB consortium has always drafted QBs even when they already had elite QB play. I see no reason why these guys wouldn’t do the same. Keep drafting, signing, stealing, until we find the one. When we find “the one” keep drafting QB talent as replacement or trade bait. Its a simple formula and why Green Bay has had elite QB play since Favre and we have not since Marino. PA phinphan says draft one late or bring in an undrafted free agent to compete.
Draft a qb in round 5 or 7 with some athleticism and an above average arm. No more stuck in the mud noodle arm qbs, please. Or take a chance on an UDFA maybe do both. But bring in at least one more so there is competition even if it is for 2nd and 3rd string. I hope it is true competition across the board and may the best man win. Give everyone another reason to push to be better.
