Tony Ferguson is back in the win column, but it comes with controversy.
The former interim UFC lightweight champion made his boxing debut on Saturday against experienced influencer boxer Salt Papi in the co-main event of Misfits Boxing 22. After losing the first two rounds of the fight, Ferguson was able to get the TKO win in the third round with Papi up against the ropes, but the stoppage appeared to be super early, even though Papi was starting to slow down.
Check out the finish of the fight below.
The first round saw Papi show the boxing experience gaps. Ferguson pushed forward as the aggressor, but paid the price multiple times as Papi clipped him two or three times to easily win the opening stanza. “El Cucuy” turned up the volume in the second round, finding more success and confidence with his strikes, but Papi, once again, far and away landed the more damaging shots
Once Round 3 began, the momentum of the fight completely changed into Ferguson’s favor, as he started landing more and more, with Papi visibly starting to wilt under the pressure. Ferguson landed about 15 unanswered punches before the referee intervened.
Ferguson snaps an eight-fight losing streak with the victory — which was his first since defeating Donald Cerrone at UFC 238 in June 2019.
