I know, it’s only Marshall at home, but I like it.
This is a fascinating video for me. The first closeup, other than Mick Jagger front and center, is new Stone Mick Taylor. The dearly departed Charlie Watts is wearing a hat. Keith looks like he’s missing a tooth (that tracks). Bill Wyman’s bangs. The fact this is filmed inside a portable paint booth. And they pump in bubbles. It’s just glorious.
This Saturday was probably a foregone conclusion in terms of a dominant win over a program that was in serious
rebuilding mode and didn’t have time to work out a cohesive plan against a national power loaded with blue chippers. I know this, but I liked it. It didn’t have to be something we sacrificed to the football gods, we didn’t have to make a grand gesture, because it was a win inside Sanford Stadium with live Bulldog football. That’s enough for me. And something envied by those following the Red Elephant and Armani Bear.
There’s news of a FSU football player getting shot, others suffering serious injury, some good news about a Black Knight doing Black Knight things, and other very concerning issues. Let’s be glad we are where we are.
It did seem to come at a little bit of a cost though. As Macondawg pointed out in the post-game, 3 offensive linemen going down is not something to ignore. As of posting this, I haven’t seen the results of Gaston’s MRI or an update on Greene. If all three need to rest against the Governors Saturday in order to be ready for Tennessee, I have no problem with that.
Cornerback Daylen Edwards was also held out of the game, though he was suited up and went through pre-game warmups.
You can find plenty of praise for Georgia’s performance, and several critiques. Even DGD Aaron Murray (and not his girlfriend Erin Murry) said on live radio that the Bulldog offensive line was good, but not good enough against Marshall (he didn’t mention the injuries). Search enough and you can find the narrative that suits your purpose. I myself turn to local sources, and as tradition, the Red & Black grades each position group every Bulldog game. I mostly agree with these, but it’s hard to quibble when you have to nitpick in order to pettifog.
If you care about the NFL, and I don’t hold it against you, there was some Bulldog news. 53 man rosters were finalized last week, and now we’ve heard that a few former ‘Dawgs were named to practice squads, waiting their turn or hoping to turn some heads and get back onto official rosters. Good on ya.
Speaking of former ‘Dawgs, a little golf news for you. It’s official that Russell Henley and Harris English were automatic qualifiers for the US Ryder Cup team. Brian Harman was 12th in points, but did not receive a captain’s pick. However, Sepp Straka did receive a captain’s pick for the European team, and will face Henley/English, et al. in late September for the biannual US vs. Europe team golf spectacle. That’s 3 former Bulldogs out of 24 players, chosen from those who have played the best golf in the world of late.
So would all this satisfy you? Would it slide on by you? Do you think this writer insane? All answers are correct, by the way. Enjoy your Tuesday, for it’s just another few sleeps before more another Saturday in Athens. As always…
GO ‘DAWGS!!!
