As future teammate Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje is making a solid impression in the Adidas EuroCamp, Maxime Meyer has done well himself in the 2026 FIBA U18 Men’s AmeriCup, helping Canada to a 67-65 upset over Team USA on Sunday.
Meyer played nearly 25 minutes, and while he didn’t shoot well (1/3 and 1/3), he had a solid game on the boards, pulling down 6, with 3 of those on the offensive end.
He also had an impressive 5 steals and 3 blocks. If he can do that at Duke, he’ll earn minutes.
We’ve been saying
for a while now that Canada should be the rising star in FIBA basketball. Just look at who has come from Up North lately: Brandon Clarke, Luguentz Dort, Zach Edey, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jamal Murray, Andrew and Ryan Nemhard, Andrew Wiggins, and of course former Blue Devil, RJ Barrett.
The neighbors have gotten pretty good at our game, and seeing them win the AmeriCup reinforces that.
Soon, both Meyer and Boumtje Boumtje will be in Durham, and will start getting up to speed on what Duke Basketball is all about. It’s going to be fun to watch them both.
