Is Lennart Karl the most highlight friendly Bayern Munich youngster to make it to the first team this century? Certainly, it seems he has marked his first season at the Bavarians with a number of incredible moments. Efforts in friendlies against Grasshopper Zürich and Tottenham Hotspur provided a taste of what he could do but goals in the Champions League and the Bundesliga and Club Brugge and Borussia Mönchengladbach, respectively, proved he could do the same in a competitive fixture as well.
But
when asked what his most memorable moment in a Bayern shirt was, Karl first thought was simply about when he earned a spot in the starting XI: “Starting for FC Bayern [against Wehen Wiesbaden in the DFB Pokal] was something special,” Karl confided, as captured by @iMiaSanMia. “The goals in the Champions League and Bundesliga were particularly great, but my first assist against TSG Hoffenheim was also important for me. I can’t get those things out of my head.”
A nostalgic 17-year-old is a rare thing. But it speaks to his character that his achievements matter more than the spectacular.
