It may be cold in a good chunk of the country today, but it’s gonna be hot in Iowa City this afternoon with the No. 10 Iowa Hawkeyes hosting the No. 12 Ohio State Buckeyes in Carver-Hawkeye Arena in what is sure to be a closely contested matchup between two teams that have no love lost between them.
Iowa comes into this game after letting Maryland come back from a 17 point deficit in the OT road win on Thursday night, while Ohio State comes in after having to come from behind to get a road win at Indiana
the same night. The Buckeyes are on a seven game win streak that has included wins over then No. 8 Maryland, and No. 9 TCU on a neutral court on MLK Day. However, the Buckeyes will be without redshirt freshman Kylee Kitts, the team’s best rebounder and third best scorer with 9 points per game.
Iowa will need to take advantage of that, but will still have its work cut out for the team against sophomore guard Jaloni Cambridge. For Iowa, like most games, this one will probably come down to what version of its posts shows up. Another big game from Hannah Stuelke would make a big difference in particular, along with Ava Heiden ideally staying out of foul trouble. I’ll be curious to see if Addie Deal can have another strong home performance, despite not playing much on Thursday.
Hopefully the home crowd will play a factor in Iowa’s favor. I sadly can’t make it to the game today because of illness, so I’ll be around in the comments and will have a recap up as well. I’m bummed to miss it, but hopefully it’s a good game, with no blown leads late.
Keep it civil in the comments as usual…unless you’re talking bad about Kevin McGuff — that is completely acceptable 🙂
GO HAWKS!
