I think it’s almost an understatement to call this BVB transfer window from boring. The Black and Yellows have signed just one new player in Jobe Bellingham, and the departures have been players such as Youssoufa Moukoko and Sebastién Haller and Jamie Gittens—players who have either featured only in rotation or not at all for Dortmund in over a year. With the transfer window nearing it’s end, the club has now picked up the pace and moved some more pieces in and out of the squad. Whether there is going
to be more activity is unknown, but I can’t imagine that any major signings will be joining the club after today.
Gio Reyna Leaves for Borussia Mönchedgladback
Yesterday, it was finally made official that Gio Reyna’s transfer to Borussia Mönchengladbach had gone through. Dortmund will receive around €6 million + €1.5 million euros in easy achievable bonusses. The transfer fee almost tells it’s own story, reflecting the what could have been that will no doubt linger in Dortmund fans after the young American’s departure. Gio joined the BVB academy at just 16-years of age, and he quickly pushed his way into the senior squad. I think many people will remember Gio as a very skilled footballer with a nice shot on him. I for one will remember his countless goals off the bench, including a fine cavalcade of true bangers. Now he leaves for Gladbach, a town just around 65 miles away from Dortmund, which of course mean’s that he’ll still be a part of the battle of the Borussias. There are many storylines around Gio that I could dive into—both those football related and those not-so-much, but honestly, I just wish him the best. The player himself have remained professional throughout his time at Dortmund, and I think many of us still believe that he can achieve a mighty fine career. Good luck, Gio!

Dortmund Sign Carney Chukwuemeka on a Permanent Deal
Ealier this transfer window, Dortmund sold Jamie Gittens to Chelsea FC for €65 million, and now it seems that two players are heading the other way. Negotiations about the potential signing of Carney Chukwuemeka have been going on ever since the season ended, and it now seems that Sebastian Kehl has finally been granted his wish, with Carney joining BVB for a package around €25 million.
Chelsea will reportedly have a high sell-on clause, which no doubt explains the low fee that Dortmund will be getting a high-quality player for. Carney featured regularly in his loan spell last season, and the 21-year old Englishman quickly became a fan favorite because of his technical ability and initiative on the ball. In terms of pure footballing ability, 25 million euros is no doubt the bargain of the Bundesliga transfer window. Carney has shown elite abilities during his time in Dortmund—the big question is just if he’s able to stay healthy throughout the season—and for that we pray. Also good on Kehl for getting a player of this quality for this fee, because as we all know, Chelsea started out demanding between 35 and 40 million euros for Chukwuemeka at the start of the window.
Aaron Anselmino Joins BVB on Loan From Chelsea
With Niklas Süle out for a foreseeable future, and with Nico Schlotterbeck and Emre Can still in recovery, BVB have been in dire need of some reinforcements at the back. Now a solution has been found, and his name is Aaron Anselmino—a 20-year old Argentine center back from Chelsea. Anselmino will join BVB on loan with no option to buy, so this is just a stop gap deal from Kehl and co.

To be honest, I don’t know much about this guy. Last year, he was on loan at his old club, Boca Juniors, where he was a firm part of the starting XI. Then, he seemingly got an injury that has since been treated over the summer. I will say that his stats look quite promising, and I guess he’s a bit more seasoned at a higher level than Filippo Mané, who unfortunately also showed a bit of inexperience in yesterday’s game against St. Pauli. Although I’m usually not a big fan of straight loan deals, this one does make a lot of sense. Dortmund aren’t able to spend big on a starter quality player, and you can be quite sure that this deal has probably also played a positive role in the deal for Chukwuemeka. All in all, this seems like fine business from our sporting department. Now we just hope that this guy doesn’t turn out like Leo Balerdi.
