At Monday’s coaches press conference, Mario Cristobal provided a few injury updates for Miami Hurricanes players.
Returning to the field this week will be RB Jordan Lyle, WR JoJo Trader, and DL Armondo Blount. All 3 players missed the Bethune Cookman game, but will be full go through the week of practice and game.
All of those players have started games for Miami, including the opener against Notre Dame,
so getting them back is a good thing. Lyle is one of 3 RBs — along with Mark Fletcher Jr. and Marty Brown — who are interchangeable as starter. Lyle is the quickest player of the group, and plays with a slashing style that offers a different look than Fletcher Jr. and Brown, who are bigger, more physical backs.
Trader is a player many have high expectations for. He has all the talent in the world, and with a new WR corps, Trader can be a player at the top of the rotation…if he can stay healthy.
Blount is a talented and physical defensive lineman who plays both outside and inside for the Canes’ defense. He moves around based on various packages, and he continues to improve almost daily.
On the bad side of things, Cristobal gave one further update. After saying on the Joe Rose Show this more that true freshman 5-star recruit Hayden Lowe would miss a bit of time (“It’ll be a while” was the direct quote from Cristobal’s morning radio appearance), Cristobal updated that outlook and said that Lowe’s injury is season-ending.
Cristobal said that Lowe got dinged up a few weeks ago, and tried to fight through his injury. However, Lowe’s injury has gotten to the point where it’s more significant than initially thought, and he’ll be out for the season, with a focus on getting ready for Spring Football 2026.
So there you have it. Lyle, Trader, and Blount will return. But Lowe is out for the year.
The Miami Hurricanes host the USF Bulls at Hard Rock Stadium this Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30pm.
