The NFL trade deadline looms less than three weeks away, on November 4.
The Las Vegas Raiders could be among the sellers in the league. Las Vegas snapped a four-game losing streak in Week 6 and they are
2-4. While the Raiders are in a hole in the AFC. There are five teams in the conference with worse records, so if the Raiders could get hot, they may not look to making deals.
Yet, the reality is, trading some veterans could be a possibility for the Raiders.
Among the prime candidates to be potentially shipped out of Las Vegas is wide receiver Jakobi Meyers and rumors have intensified that he could soon be sent out of town.
Meyers has asked to be traded because he wants a contract extension. However, as he promised, Meyers has continued to play despite his desire to be given a new deal or traded, which the Raiders have opposed.
However, Meyers’ production has dropped in recent games because his opportunities have decreased. He has been targeted a total of 21 times in the past four games. He was targeted 22 times in the first two games.
Meyers was targeted four times (tied for a season low in Week 6). He has 15 catches in the past four games and has 29 catches for 323 yards as a No. 1 receiver.
When Meyers became the Raiders’ top receiver early last season after the Davante Adams saga began, he never had less than five targets a game. In 12 games as the Raiders’ top receiver in 2024, he averaged nine targets a game.
Reasons can vary for a player’s targets to decrease, but the truth is, the Raiders have used Meyers less for the past month. Yes, he missed practice Wednesday with knee and toe injuries, but that was not a reported issue in the past month.
If the losing continues, the Raiders may decide that they can move on without Meyers and get some draft compensation to help the future of the team. ESPN reported the team is open to dealing Meyers, but aren’t actively seeking a trade.
We will see if Meyers’ opportunities increase soon. If not, the Raiders may have a decision to make.
