Will Osula will play for Newcastle United throughout the 2025-26 season after a proposed Deadline Day loan move to Eintracht Frankfurt was blocked by the Magpies with just hours left at the end of the summer transfer window, according to The Athletic.
According to the report, the Bundesliga club had been close to securing the 22-year-old on a season-long deal. With everything sorted out, however, Newcastle decided to keep him at the last minute as additional cover in attack following the sale of Alexander
Isak to Liverpool and the arrivals of Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart and Yoane Wissa from Brentford.
Osula joined from Sheffield United in August 2024 for €10m and has struggled for regular minutes, with just 16 Premier League appearances and two goals to his name. One of those came in last week’s 3-2 home defeat to Liverpool a few days ago, where he put it in after coming off the bench.
The Danish forward, who signed a five-year contract upon joining Newcastle, has seen his role shift during a turbulent summer, but should be back to pine-riding with Wissa and Woltemade in tow.
Last season, Osula was behind Isak and Callum Wilson in Eddie Howe’s pecking order, but Wilson’s departure and Isak’s record sale to Liverpool altered the picture. With two bona fide starters and proven forwards in Woltemade and Wissa, however, the expectation is for Howe to keep using Osula as a depth piece and limit his opportunities as he keeps growing and developing his game.
Osula led the line in Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Leeds United with Anthony Gordon suspended, showing flashes of his physical presence but a rawness that makes it hard to consider him a through-and-through starter at this point in his career.
That said, having a fresh 22-year-old striker to spare will definitely provide the Magpies with a valuable, rotational piece as Newcastle will need to play in four competitions during the first stage of the season, featuring in the Premier League, the Champions League, and two domestic cups.
