It’s hard to remember exactly how it all went down as I was just starting to raise a family, and that generally drains some memory from the brain. However… there was this snippet in time when colleges thought they could just make their own music videos and fans would just be like THAT’S THE BEST SHIT I’VE EVER HEARD.
Yes, of course I’m talking about the Notre Dame and the Freekbass megahit, We Are ND. You already knew that, but did you also know about Purdue’s contribution to the music world? Around
the same time, Purdue created a Purdue Rap known as, You Outta be Proud.
Both songs are terrible for all of the obvious reasons, and both fanbases immediately trashed them for being awful — this is how checks and balances work properly. Unfortunately for Notre Dame, they didn’t learn a thing and created another cringy song a few years later that should be equally dragged by the fanbase, but gets lost in the conversation because of how awful the Freekbass thing was.
I feel like I talk about these things regularly when Notre Dame and Purdue play, but that’s because we must never forget. These videos have been preserved, and we admonish them both as being crimes against humanity… but who did it worse?
