We got some good news and some bad news regarding the Chicago Bears quarterbacks today, so let’s get the bad news out of the way first.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Williams’ hamstring is more severe than initially thought, writing that it’s a “Grade 2 hamstring injury that doctors say could sideline him for three to four weeks.”
Williams has been ruled out of tomorrow night’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles. In Week 4, the Bears host the New York Jets; Week 5, they are on the road against the Green
Bay Packers; and Week 6, they travel to play the Atlanta Falcons (10/18). In Week 7, the Bears play on short rest as they host the New England Patriots on Thursday Night Football (10/22).
Schefter added, “This doesn’t mean that Williams, whom the Bears have touted as a quick healer, couldn’t return sooner than that timeline. It just means that doctors believe this type of injury normally takes three to four weeks of recovery, and that is the doctors’ best estimation of how long it could take Williams to recover.”
The Bears did receive some good news today as Tyson Bagent cleared concussion protocol and no longer has an injury designation for the game.
On the FOX Pregame show, Jay Glazer reported that Bagent will be the backup quarterback with Case Keenum starting. “They couldn’t make him the starter because he wasn’t involved too much in the game plan,” Glazer said.
Bagent was away from the facility earlier in the week, but practiced yesterday and was presumably present for today’s walk-through.
