Struggles with runners in scoring position ultimately did the Stripers in as they went 2-for-9 in the situation, and stranded 11 on base while picking up their 84th loss of the season. In what was setup to be a bullpen game, Brian Moran (3IP 2H 2ER 0BB 4K) was one of six
pitchers used by the Stripers in the game. He pitched relatively well in his two inning stint, but yielded a two run homer in the first, after quickly recording two outs.
The Stripers mounted a potential respond in the bottom half of the first, loading the bases with just one out, but scored just once, a sacrifice fly by Conner Capel. They would tack on another run, and tie the game, in the second inning when Jesús Bastidas drove in Chandler Seagle who had doubled right before him.
After a 1-2-3 inning by Brian Moran in the third, the Stripers turned to Austin Cox (1IP 1H 1R 0ER 0BB 0K) who was the victim of some mistakes – giving up a lead off single, moving the runner over to third on a wild pitch + throwing error combination with the catcher. With one out and a runner on third, Austin would surrender a sacrifice fly to give the Indians the lead again at 3-2, a lead they would not relinquish.
Following Austin Cox was Davis Daniel (2IP 4H 3ER 1BB 1K) who struggled out of the gate – giving up a single, HBP, and a walk to load the bases with 0 outs. He would somehow get out of this disastrous scenario giving up just one run, a Ji Hwan Bae line out to center that would increase the Indians lead to 4-2.
The Stripers would tack on a run of their own in the bottom half of the same inning after a throwing error by the Indians shortstop allowed Luke Waddell to score from second to decrease the lead to 4-3, with two runners on and just one out. Unfortunately for the Stripers their luck would run out as Matthew Batten and David Fletcher would both fly out to preserve the lead for the Indians.
Working his second inning of the game, Davis would struggle again. After retiring the first batter, Davis would allow back-to-back-to-back hits (single, single, double) that would extend the Indians lead to 6-3, a lead they would not relinquish, before ultimately retiring the final two batters of the inning.
The Stripers pitching staff would then lock in the remaining three innings with Amos Willingham (1IP 1H 0R 0BB 0K), Connor Seabold (1IP 1H 0R 0BB 0K), and Alexis Díaz (1IP 0H 0R 0BB 3K). Unfortunately the Stripers offense couldn’t get the critical hits they needed, and would ultimately fall to the Indians.
