Easy win in sight for Commanders with Brian Robinson Jr. rumors raging – Dean Jones, RiggosRag.com
Despite the continued contract standoff, McLaurin’s presence gives Washington a boost.
There is fierce debate among the Washington Commanders fan base about whether or not the team is right to reportedly put running back Brian Robinson Jr. on the trade block
. But there is an easy win staring the franchise in the face as rumors swirl. It’s been a more turbulent offseason than fans were anticipating. The Commanders are trying to navigate some concerns with cut-down day and Week 1 against the New York
Giants on the immediate horizon. None more so than the ongoing contract standoff with wide receiver Terry McLaurin.
The rumors raging around Robinson’s future have provided some distraction from McLaurin’s saga, but it is easily the most important remaining conundrum the Commanders must solve in the coming weeks.
Commanders are gearing up for Terry McLaurin’s practice return, and that’s huge
McLaurin is now officially active after coming off the physically unable to perform list. That doesn’t mean the former third-round pick is any closer to finding some middle ground with the Commanders, but it does mean that he is ready to prepare his body for the team’s upcoming challenges in the regular season.
Getting McLaurin back — regardless of whether he has an extension or not — is the morale boost everyone connected with the Commanders needs. He’s their inspirational leader, a beacon of consistency and hope throughout some extremely dark days for the organization. That hasn’t changed because of this.
The sooner McLaurin gets back among his teammates, the better Washington’s chances will be. It’s a massive win as tensions threatened to boil over. Though this move didn’t come with the contract agreement fans were hoping for, it’s a sign that negotiations are continuing. Just how long it takes to reach a compromise is another matter.
Washington needs McLaurin. The dynamic shifts (and not for the better) when he’s not on the field. Other wideouts haven’t flourished in his absence, which brought into question the lack of legitimate depth without the Ohio State product and Noah Brown taking up attention on the outside.
Adam Peters wants a deal that protects the Commanders. They aren’t there yet, but confidence will surge once McLaurin gets back onto the practice field.
Vic Fangio admits Eagles’ CB2 battle won’t be decided until after final preseason game – Alexis Chassen, BleedingGreenNation.com
Fangio needs to see as many reps as possible before the regular season to make a depth chart decision.
The Eagles were back on the practice field Monday as they prepare for the final days of training camp and the final preseason game. There’s still a lot to evaluate, and defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said that some of the position competitions won’t be decided until after their third preseason game. Fangio spoke before Monday’s practice and talked about the CB2 job, what he’s seen from Jihaad Campbell, and explained why Nolan Smith has lined up primarily on the left side.
Here’s what the DC had to say:
On the CB2 job
Fangio admitted that they don’t have any answers for the second cornerback position, noting that the competition is about even right now. The DC mentioned that Jakorian Bennett just got to Philly last week, and they need to give him an opportunity to compete for the job, too.
“Usually, it does become pretty obvious to everybody as to who is going to win the job — that hasn’t happened yet. I think they’ve all done a good job in their own way — had good moments, not so good moments, so we haven’t reached that conclusion yet.”
Earlier in camp, Fangio said that they planned to get Cooper DeJean some work at outside corner, and while that hadn’t happened up to this point, DeJean was expected to get reps there on Monday. Still, Fangio said there’s no plan right now for DeJean to move to the outside full time, and it would require someone developing at the nickel position and someone not developing at the corner position in order for that to be the case.
The DC also confirmed that Mac McWilliams is another guy competing for the CB2 role. He later noted that McWilliams had an injury that kept him out of practice for about a week, and that’s affected him a little. Fangio is hoping that he shakes that off this week, because the DC thinks he has more to show than he has thus far.
On Patrick Johnson
“Patrick was a guy we were disappointed to lose last year when we did. He’s a reliable player that knows how to play and we’re glad to have him back. He does well when he gets his reps.”
On Jihaad Campbell
“He’s been getting better and better each and every week. Like I say, he still has his hiccups, but I do think he’s getting better and better. And, [Zach] Baun’s gonna practice today for the first time in a long time, and [Jihaad Campbell will] get in there with Baun — [Jeremiah] Trotter will too —, and that will settle him down a little bit too, hopefully.”
Jaxson Dart quickly winning over New York Giants teammates: ‘One of them ones’ – Dan Benton, USA Today
The first-round quarterback is already making an impression amongst his teammates.
New York Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart has impressed NFL analysts and insiders over the first two weeks of the preseason, but much more importantly, he’s begun to win over his teammates.
And not just fellow quarterback Tommy DeVito, with whom Dart is very close.
“I ain’t gonna lie: He’s talented. He’s talented as (expletive),” wide receiver Zach Pascal told the New York Daily News. “I’m blessed to be able to be in camp with him, but I’m pretty sure later in his future career, he’s gonna be one of them ones.
“I’ve seen him make throws I haven’t even seen vets make.”
Beyond just his on-field talent, Dart has left an impression with his unrelenting work ethic and childlike energy.
“Dart has the swag you want to see in a QB that gives confidence to the whole offense,” Pascal said. “When you see him make a throw or get excited and make a run, he has that energy and excitement that trickles throughout the whole offense to make us believe in him.”
“Just the way I’ve seen him grow from college ball to the NFL and the pros. His decision-making just got so much better; the way he thinks and carries himself,” wide receiver Juice Wells, an Ole Miss teammate of Dart, told the Daily News. “Dart is in the locker room for hours after practice putting in work. So I’m excited to see what else he has in store.”
Even before the Giants traded back into the first round of the 2025 NFL draft to select Dart at No. 25, several Giants players had keyed in on him. Among them was right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor, who admits he rarely watches college football.
“I was kind of intrigued by Dart when he was at Ole Miss. I wanted to see what he could do,” Eluemunor told reporters on Monday. “He had like a certain aura about him. It kind of made me want to watch him play, and the games I did see him play, it was just phenomenal reps.
“He’s a tough guy, sometimes he has to take hits when he’s running down field but he gets back up and gets all hyped up and as an offensive lineman, you build off that when you see your quarterback running down field and taking a hit and getting back up and acting like it wasn’t really anything when you know he probably felt it. He’s a really good player.”
