For the second day in a row, Arizona men’s basketball has been on the wrong side of a commitment.
Kamsi Awaka, the younger brother of ex-Wildcats forward Tobe Awaka, committed to the Florida Gators on Wednesday. Awaka chose Florida over Arizona, Michigan and UConn. Joe Tipton of Rivals and On3 first reported the commitment.
Awaka recently visited Arizona for its Red-Blue weekend, but the Wildcats’ pitch (and NIL offer) wasn’t enough to land the 4-star center. The 6-foot-10 New Jersey native is considered a top-40 prospect in the 2027 class, according to 247Sports, including the No. 6 center.
Awaka’s decision comes on the heels of Arizona missing out on 5-star big man Darius Wabbington, who committed Tuesday to Indiana.
With both Awaka and Wabbington off the table, Arizona’s remaining offer to a class of 2027 big man is Cherif Millogo. The 7-foot-4 center from Burkina Faso lists offers from Arizona, Alabama, BYU, Georgia and Kentucky among others. He is ranked as a top-50 prospect per 247.
Arizona is still seeking its first commitment of the 2027 class, with five-star combo guard Adan Diggs considered as a top priority.
