The Indianapolis Colts announced on Saturday that veteran cornerback Charvarius Ward has been activated off injured reserve just in time to take on his former team, the Kansas City Chiefs, on the road
at Arrowhead.
The Colts waived fellow cornerback Cameron Mitchell from the active roster in a corresponding move.
After suffering his second concussion this season, freakishly during pre-game warmups after a blindsided accidental collision with teammate, tight end Drew Ogletree, Ward has not played since Week 5 against the Las Vegas Raiders—having missed the team’s last 5 games recovering from his latest head injury.
During that time, Ward suffered from dizziness and even had personal doubts on whether he’d even play football again, given the recent string of concussions and lingering strong symptoms.
That being said, it appears as though he’s feeling healthier again, and it couldn’t come at a more opportune time for the Colts, who will look to slow down the Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes and their still formidable passing attack.
It’ll mark the first time that both newly acquired Sauce Gardner and Ward will be starting opposite outside one another within a much improved and revamped Colts secondary under defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo.
On the season, Ward has 13 tackles (9 solo) and 3 passes defensed during 4 starts in 2025. Per PFF, he’s currently still their 2nd best graded cornerback overall with a +83.4 overall grade, including a +83.0 coverage grade.
The Colts also announced that the questionable designation has been lifted from versatile backup defensive end Tyquan Lewis (groin), who should provide a boost to the depleted Indianapolis defensive line rotationally.
