Manchester City Women will look to continue their fine early season form as they welcome Arsenal to the Joie Stadium. The Blues have picked up their form since an opening day defeat at Chelsea, winning
all four of their following matches, with three WSL wins and a League Cup victory over Everton.
Their form has seen new boss Andree Jeglertz nominated for manager of the month for September, having guided the Blues to third in the WSL, one point and two places above their Saturday opponents.
Arsenal are unbeaten in four WSL matches but have only won two of them so far. However, the European champions will be looking for a similar result from their visit last season, when they beat the Blues 4-3 at the Joie Stadium, making it two victories in succession on Manchester soil.
After beating London City Lionesses 4-1 on the opening day, Arsenal made the short journey to West Ham and thrashed the Hammers 5-1 in their own backyard. However, a goalless draw at Manchester United was followed by a 1-1 home draw with Aston Villa. Arsenal’s usually tight defence was breached in the fourth minute of injury time as Villa stole a point.
Team News
Lauren Hemp remains the main concern for Jeglertz and she will be out for a bit longer after suffering injury in the 5-1 win at Spurs two weeks ago. Grace Clinton is likely to keep her place in the starting line-up, as is Laura Blindkilde-Brown, who impressed last weekend against London City. Vivianne Miedema is set to face her old club in fine form, having scored three goals so far this season.
Arsenal have no injury worries but manager Renee Slegers could be tempted to give former City star Chloe Kelly her chance as she returns to the Joie Stadium for the first time.
Prediction
This is a new-look City side and it will be a test to see if the Blues continue their poor form against the other top clubs in the league or if they can compete against them. Andree Jeglertz will be looking for a good performance and I have a feeling to Blues may just come out on top in this one.
