ProBox TV announced that rising Puerto Rican welterweight Nicklaus Flaz, originally set to meet the now-injured Peter Dobson in Kissimee this coming weekend, will now face Delante “Tiger” Johnson atop
a November 7th show.
Before you ask, that’s a Friday.
Flaz (15-2. 10 KO) is 6-0 since a 2020 stoppage loss to Janelson Bocachica, notably handing Brian Ceballo and Jahi Tucker their first defeats in back-to-back bouts immediately afterwards. The 29-year-old also stands as the only fighter to finish Luke Santamaria and sits at no. 11 with both the WBO and IBF.
2020 Olympian Johnson (16-0, 7 KO) was one among many amateur standouts in Top Rank’s signing blitz a few years back, but has fallen well behind peers like Bruce Carrington thanks to a number of underwhelming performances and a style that, shall we say, lacks mass appeal. Still, this is a well-matched bout that should put the winner on the road to title contention.
It’s also nice to see Top Rank’s willingness to let its fighters stay busy while they sort oour their broadcast situation.
