During the offseason, Cleveland Browns fans vote in SB Nation Reacts to express their confidence level in the team or their thoughts on other topics.
This week, we asked one question to Browns fans, which
was how they felt after Cleveland announced the hiring of Todd Monken as their next head coach.
51% of Browns fans said they felt disappointed by the hire. That means 49% of fans still supported the move, making it basically a 50-50 split among the fanbase.
Digging deeper into the results, there were only 10% of fans who really loved the hire, while 39% of fans said that while Monken was not the guy they wanted for the job, they still supported the hiring.
The comments from our community of Browns fans were wide-ranging. Check it out for yourself, but from what I gathered, fans aren’t particularly against Monken, and the disappointment more so stems from what was perceived to be another embarrassment from how our front office handled or mismanaged the coaching search. There were a record number of head coaching vacancies this year, and it seemed like the most desirable candidates chose to steer clear of Cleveland. And then, when fans had started buying in to the thought of a young offensive-minded coach leading the team, Monken was suddenly hired over them — and now there is uncertainty with what’s happening on the defensive side of the coaching staff.
