On Thursday, the Chicago Bears issued a statement about their stadium plans.
“The Chicago Bears have exhausted every opportunity to stay in Chicago, which was our initial goal. There is not a viable site in the city. As a result, the only sites under consideration are in Arlington Heights and Hammond.”
Anyone else having déjà vu?
Team President Kevin Warren announced 9 months ago that Arlington Heights was the only Cook County location under consideration, so that “initial goal” of Chicago has been
long gone.
They’ve been flirting with Indiana since December, and a couple of days ago, it was reported that Hammond and Arlington Heights were the only two options on the table. That report promised that an actual decision on new stadium plans would be revealed by “late spring, early summer.”
Today’s statement seems like a waste of time or a direct shot at the city of Chicago, who has been posturing through the media and making noise in Springfield for months. The city had to have known the Bears were leaving.
We’ve known for quite some time, too.

They signed the purchase agreement on the Arlington Park property three days after Justin Fields got his first professional start.
The Bears should probably stop talking about the stadium until they have something worthwhile to say.
