Andres Iniesta has been quizzed on the possibility of becoming a future manager of Barcelona after starting his coaching career in Dubai with Gulf United.
The 42-year-old is dipping his toe into management after hanging up his boots but says he’s not currently planning a return to Barcelona at any point.
“Destiny will decide what’s meant to be. Obviously, it would be wonderful if I continued my coaching career, given what Barça means to me, but it’s not something I’m actively aiming for,” he told Mundo
Deportivo.
“I’ve always said that my dream was to be a footballer, and that’s when I had goals and obsessions, when I arrived in Barcelona: to succeed with the first team. Those were goals, things I was very clear about.
“Now, perhaps because I like to think things through a bit more slowly, because being a coach wasn’t something I had planned, time will tell, but it’s true that I’m really enjoying this start.
“Not just because I’m a coach, but because of everything it entails.”
Iniesta is one of several former Barca stars working in coaching. Xavi has taken over as Netherlands coach, Cesc Fabregas is enjoying life at Como, while Sergio Busquets has returned to the club this summer to work with Barca Atletic.
