There were no fans in attendance at Halas Hall today to watch the Chicago Bears, but today’s light practice officially closes the book on Ben Johnson’s second training camp. They flew off to Nashville today for a joint practice on Thursday with the Tennessee Titans, and the two teams play their preseason finale on Saturday at 5:00 pm (CT).
There was some on-field action, as Mason Williams of the Times of Northwest Indiana shared that Caleb Williams was 4 for 6 in a 7-on-7 red zone period capped off
with a touchdown to Jahdae Walker, and that Tyson Bagent had the day’s best ball to Scotty Miller for a touchdown in the same 7-on-7 red zone period.
But the biggest news out of Halas Hall was the return of wide receiver Luther Burden III after missing nearly three weeks with a groin injury. He was limited, but this is a positive sign for the Bears season opener on September 13 in Carolina. Also back was right tackle Darnell Wright, who left yesterday’s practice with an issue to his right arm. Whatever it was, it didn’t stop him from getting all the work with the ones today.
Here are a few more personnel nuggets from the day.
- Defensive end Austin Booker missed practice again, and there’s still no word from the Bears as to why.
- Also missing today were DE Marcus Davenport, who has yet to practice; DT Gervon Dexter Sr., TE Hayden Large, and CB Dontae Manning, who all left yesterday’s practice with injuries; RB Kyle Monangai, LB Tony Fields II, and LB Ruben Hyppolite II.
- Vet rest days for LG Joe Thuney and DT Grady Jarrett.
- Safety Elijah Hicks, who just came off the PUP list, rotated in with the ones in 7-on-7 today, and Jaylon Jones worked at the nickel with the twos. (link)
- The coaches did a medicine ball toss competition at the end of practice, which led to the defense doing push-ups. (link)
Here are a few videos from practice; as you can see, everyone had the same idea.
