Tuesday night is one of the biggest games in the history of Mackey Arena. Purdue began the season as the No. 1 ranked team, but now it will look to beat the No. 1 ranked team for the first time since beatined Arizona in December 2024.
The Boilermakers have only beaten No. 1 three times in their history. Twice were agaisnt Arizona in Gainbridge Fieldhosue. The third time occurred in 1979 when Purdue beat No. 1 Michigan State with Magic Johnson 52-50. That victory came in Mackey Arena, and it is the only time Purdue has
beaten the No. 1 ranked team in West Lafayette.
Purdue’s 3-20 all-time record against No. 1 ranked teams is not great, and the last time a No. 1 team came to West Lafayette the Boilers lost by nine to Illinois in 2005.
