The Buffalo Bills announced a trio of roster moves on Tuesday, October 28, signing two practice squad players to the 53-man active roster, and placing another on Injured Reserve (IR). Safety Jordan Poyer and defensive tackle Jordan Phillips have now been promoted to the team’s active roster, following stints as game-day call-ups to start in recent weeks.
The Bills also placed defensive tackle Ed Oliver on IR in the wake of a torn biceps injury he suffered against the Carolina Panthers in Week 8. Oliver could
potentially return later this season, something to which he’s made intimations about on social media regarding a playoff run.
Bills place DT Ed Oliver on IR
Ed Oliver was off to a fantastic start in 2025, forcing a game-changing fumble of Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry late in the fourth quarter. That turnover provided the spark Buffalo needed to come away with a key win in Week 1. During practice for Week 2, Oliver was stepped on by a teammate and forced to the sideline for the next four games. He returned to the field against the Falcons in Week 6 before landing on IR following the injury in Week 8.
In 2.5 games played, Oliver had been a true defensive nightmare, claiming three sacks, 12 tackles (10 solo), seven tackles for loss, five quarterback hits, and one forced fumble. Oliver will be missed, and Buffalo will be lucky if he’s able to return later in the season.
Bills sign 2 fan-favorite veterans to 53-man active roster
Jordan Poyer made his return to Orchard Park, NY late in August, signing to the Bills’ practice squad. Before his promotion to the active roster, Poyer played in two games, starting last weekend against the Panthers. In two appearances Poyer has six tackles (1 solo), per Pro Football Reference.
With safety Taylor Rapp on IR with a knee injury, Poyer provides much-needed experience to a unit in distress through large parts of the 2025 season.
Jordan Phillips re-signed with One Bills Drive at the end of August, with reports initially indicating it was to Buffalo’s 53-man roster. He was out of practice-squad call-ups, having played in three games already in 2025. Phillips saw action against three NFC South opponents in the New Orleans Saints, Atlanta Falcons, and most recently last weekend against the Panthers.
Phillips notched his first sack of the season against Carolina, and has made four tackles (3 solo), one tackle for loss, and one quarterback hit, per Pro Football Reference. He will play a pivotal role for a defensive tackle room besieged by injury through seven games.
