After official word broke that Jake Paul will now be stepping into the ring with former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua as opposed to a lightweight Gervonta Davis, Lawrence Okolie offers to lend a helping
hand to Paul as he’s obviously in deep. So when speaking about the upcoming event and his interest in participating, Okolie shared these thoughts with ESPN.
“I want to go help Jake Paul, give him a chance. I want to go out there to Puerto Rico. What I don’t to happen to him is he gets absolutely destroyed in a round or whatever if AJ turns it on,” Okolie said. ‘‘I have a fight coming up, but I’ll go out for a couple of weeks. I want to know what it is that’s allowed Jake Paul to say to himself: ‘I’m going to get in there with a 250-pound muscle man from England, this big guy, Olympic gold, former two-time heavyweight world champion, in front of millions of fans on Netflix.’”
Okolie would add that he doesn’t expect Joshua to come into this fight looking to spark Paul out at the earliest opportunity, but he does think if Paul lands a few good shots on Joshua that could quickly change his mindset. To that end there’s obviously a bit of curiosity coming from Okolie and many others who wonder why Paul would put himself in such a menacing position against a serious threat (aside from the money there is to gain).
Needless to say this will be Paul’s biggest challenge thus far and we saw how that turned out for Francis Ngannou not all that long ago. Joshua and Paul will collide on December 19 in Miami in an event that will stream live on Netflix.
