The calendar has turned to August and the shoulder pads are once again popping in Athens. That can only mean one thing: the return of ‘‘Dawg Bites, your daily run down of what’a going on in Bulldog Nation. Let’s get to it.
Brad Crawford at CBS Sports has released its list of the ten teams who could emerge undefeated from college football’s regular season, and as you might expect the Red and Black are on the list. As Brad notes the Athenians do not have one of the easier routes to the land of the unblemished,
with five contests against teams that finished 2025 ranked in the top 25.
I agree that the October 10th trip to Tuscaloosa is probably the biggest stumbling block. But games against Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Florida, and Georgia Tech all provide unique opportunities to stumble. If the Bulldogs survive the gauntlet and make it to the SEC Championship Game as an undefeated team it will have been a fantastic job of coaching by Kirby Smart and his staff.

Elsewhere in fascinating lists ESPN has a list of the ten SEC freshmen who could make an immediate impact. Vanderbilt quarterback and Nate Bargatze sidekick Jared Curtis is the top pick, but a pair of Bulldog freshmen also made the list. Zykie Helton earned a mention at guard, and tight end Kaiden Prothro also earned a shoutout.
How the offensive coaches use Prothro in an already loaded tight end room is really one of the most interesting story lines on this team. Lawson Luckie and Elyiss Williams are each early All-SEC candidates, but Prothro is just too good to keep off the field. It’ll be fascinating to see how many snaps he can earn, and how much the staff trusts him in high pressure situations.
Also in that tight end room will be Jaden Reddell, who Connor Riley of DawgNation notes is among the spring standouts who could keep turning heads this fall.
I’m personally really curious to see what freshman Tyriq Green can do in the cornerback rotation. Green was a one man wrecking crew for the Buford Wolves last season. If he picks up the scheme and avoids hitting the freshman wall, he could have a great season behind likely starters Ellis Robinson IV and Demelo Jones. Green may also see time at safety behind fellow Buford alum KJ Bolden. I just think the guy is too good for the coaches to not find some spots to get him on the field.
